Penguin had a Book Giveaway on Goodreads recently for The Beggar’s Opera. Ten free books were out there but those interested had to register within a limited period of time, in this case between October 5 and 26th. It was interesting to keep track of how many people entered (given that I’m a debut author).
At the end of the contest, there were 222 entrants, which I thought was pretty good, since Penguin itself has 475 followers.
As it turns out, two of my friends– Anne Devereux and Beth McColl– won free copies!
And what’s kind of ironic about that is that although they are actually friends, not just of mine, but of each other, even though they live on opposite ends of the country. Believe me, I had absolutely nothing to do with this!
Beth was one of my external readers for a very early draft of TBO so I’ll be interested as to what she thinks of the final version. She’s also supplied many of the photographs of Havana that will be loaded onto the new website (still under construction, but we are working on it). Congrats to both of you, and enjoy!
