Back when I was a lawyer, I used to volunteer for REACH which is an Ottawa charity that provides advocacy/education services for disabled people. When approached by Executive Director, Paula Agulnik, about donating a book to this year’s auction, I suggested we could do a little better.
And so, with Penguin’s support, REACH is going to auction off six copies of The Beggar’s Opera to the lucky bidder. But that’s not all. I’m throwing in an evening with the author (me), mojitos, and Cuban appetizers, all for six.
I think Lawrence Greenspon will be the auctioneer again, and that’s always fun.
Sound appetizing? I think it’s the perfect event for a book club or book lovers, and it’s all for a great cause.
The auction is on at 7:30 at the St. Elias Centre but it’s a gala affair with cocktails, a gourmet meal etc. which all starts at 5 PM. Tickets on sale now. Here are the details. Now get out there and buy your tickets!
